PLACES - Promoting Landscape, Accessibility and Culture for Experimental and Sustainable Tourism
The European project PLACES [ITAT 46-019], co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Interreg VI-A Italia - Austria, aims to enhance the cultural and natural heritage of the cross-border area through technological innovation, accessibility, inclusion and culture in a participatory perspective, improving the tourist experience for everyone.
Through Museo Naturalistico Archeologico di Santa Corona, the Municipality of Vicenza is a partner of the project, together with La Piccionaia Società Cooperativa Sociale – Coordinator; Independent L. Onlus Social Cooperative from Meran; Consorzio di Promozione Turistica del Tarvisiano, di Sella Nevea e di Passo Pramollo; Landesmuseum für Kärnten and Kärnten Werbung in Klagenfurt. Two associated partners are also involved: the Gleichstellungrätin der Autonomen Provinz Bozen – Südtirol, and the Municipality of Tarvisio.
Objective
Promotion of the culture of accessibility among tourism, museum and cultural operators in the cross-border area, as well as accessibility, inclusiveness, digitalization and the experiential nature of the tourist offer, to increase its usability and enjoyment by all.
Activities
The museum sites become the creating places of new contents and services (multimedia, digital and interactive contents; thematic museum and territory itineraries; solutions for the independent visit of disabled people; virtual tours with mapping of accessible Points of Interest; inclusive communication tools) through the use of new technologies and artistic languages, and with the involvement of local communities for an authentic narration of the places and their active participation in the valorization of the cultural and natural heritage as a common good. The pilot sites will also be connected in the PLACES Museum Circuit (expandable to other structures after the end of the project) which will allow remote visits and access to special content, for the cross-border promotion of sustainable and accessible tourism.
In detail, the Municipality of Vicenza:
- contributes in terms of museum management, museum accessibility, natural sciences and archaeology;
- supports the planning and organization of project activities and public events within the museum, as the manager of a pilot site;
- is part of the PLACES Museum Circuit – online platform for the presentation of museums and their offerings, for remote visits and use of content.
Expected results for Vicenza
- the creation of a narrative and sensorial museum route at Museo Naturalistico Archeologico, dedicated to children and families;
- the creation of a walking itinerary in the area, accompanied by sound dramaturgy developed with the involvement of the local community;
- equipment for physical (ramps, elevator), visual (lighting ptoject) and digital (WI-FI cabling) accessibility at Museo Naturalistico Archeologico;
- new museum installations of Museo Naturalistico Archeologico, with physical and sensorial content;
- the creation of new digital, multimedia, interactive and inclusive content, both informative and experiential;
- the completion of the section dedicated to accessibility on Vicenza museums website;
- the online platform for the promotion of cultural and sustainable mobility (museum circuit places) with one virtual tour of the pilot site.
Budget
The overall budget of the project amounts to € 963,013.75, of which € 887,803.44 financed for 80% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and for 20% by Italian and Austrian national funds. The budget for the Municipality of Vicenza amounts to €142,564.45, of which €132,564.45 of EU-ERDF contribution and national contribution and €10,000.00 from the Municipality of Vicenza own resources through the valorization of the expenses of personnel employed in the project.
