La Grande Guerra

Fotography became, in a very short time, the most immediate, understandable and simple way of documentation and expression, the universal language of our time. To the photographic image we recognize since time dignity of historical document; if for the First World War the utilization of photography wasn't an absolute innovation, it is clear that it gained a fundamental importance on the military and propagandistic conducts, even in coincidence with the Great War.

In the tragedy of the First World War  the representation of its events became with the photography a spontaneous and human document, often masterpiece of truth and accuracy. From the days of the mobilization to the last fight in the trenches, the use of image formed a fact of extraordinary importance and without precedent. At distance of several years we recognize that photography played a really greater role than expected.
