Gallerie di Palazzo Thiene
Notice: Once the historic headquarters of Banca Popolare di Vicenza from 1872 until the compulsory administrative liquidation order in 2017, since 2021 Palazzo Thiene has been owned by the Municipality of Vicenza and has been part of the civic museum system. Except for the sculptures by Nereo Quagliato, the works on display are the property of Banca Popolare di Vicenza S.p.A. in compulsory administrative liquidation. The artworks installation is temporary.
Physical access:
The entrance to the Galleries is from Contra’ San Gaetano Thiene 11, where there is a small 3-cm step.
The Museum is spread over 4 floors, all accessible via 2 elevators (door 80 cm, interior 110x140 cm) with Braille button panel and acoustic signal of arrival at the floor, or from an elliptical staircase with handrail.
The basement is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, and is made of 6 interconnected rooms. The path begins with a ramp with a 4% slope.
The ground floor and the main floor house rooms with frescoes, stuccoes and fireplaces made in the mid-16th century; in the same spaces, you can admire the collections of Venetian paintings from the 16th to the 19th century, the ceramics of the Antonibon factory and the collections of popular Venetian dishes from the 19th century. The path begins in the north rooms on the ground floor, reachable thanks to a short ramp with a 16% slope and a small 3-cm step in the first room.
The second floor houses the collection of sculptures by Arturo Martini and Nereo Quagliato, as well as the collection of Oselle Dogali [special silver coins minted in Venice by the Doge – Translator’s note]. The collection of Remondini prints is not currently visible to the public for conservation reasons. The sculpture section can only be reached by climbing a 6-step staircase with a handrail. From there you can reach the section dedicated to the Oselle, going down one of the two 7 or 8-step staircases with handrails. The Oselle can also be reached from the former Remondini rooms, all on the same floor starting from the elevator, but passing the narrow metal corridor (about 50-80 cm) that surrounds the top of the dome decorating the Metamorphoses Room on the lower floor.
Toilets:
The toilets are located in the basement, reachable with one of the two elevators. The accessible toilet does not have a grab bar and is equipped with a normal sink. There are also 3 bathrooms for men and 3 for women reachable by going down 3 steps.
