Morphology and Geology of the Berici Hills
The visit to the Museum begins with a look at the model of the Berici Hills. This analysis provides information on the morphological conformation of the hilly massif and identifies the location of the main archaeological sites, whose findings are exhibited in the Archaeological Section.
The geological room follows a chronostratigraphic display approach, where each sedimentary sequence, tectonic or volcanic event is extensively described and illustrated with paleoenvironmental reconstructions, geographic analysis of the main sedimentary areas, stratigraphic columns describing the various rocks and their paleontological content, and photographs of present-day environments where sedimentation similar to that which occurred in the Berici Hills millions of years ago is now occurring.
Here, visitors can observe Cretaceous red flake deposits, Eocene nummulitic limestones, basaltic volcanics from the nearby Lessini Mountains, aquatic plants, marine invertebrates, and even large vertebrates found in Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Age human sites.
