The Neolithic

6,500 - 3,400 B.C.

The most important Neolithic remains in the Vicenza area come from the marshy lake areas of the Berici Hills and in particular from the Fimon Valleys. Here villages of huts were built on reclaimed land, their inhabitants farming crops and animals alongside the traditional activities of hunting and gathering.

From Ca’ Bissara di Pojana Maggiore and Pianezze di Arcugnano come flint tools and pottery from the Early Neolithic.

The Molino Casarotto settlement developed in the Middle Neolithic on the banks of Lake Fimon, with huts built on land consolidated with tree trunks (reclaimed), where remains of fires and areas for waste have been found, containing among other things piles of shells and fish and tortoise remains, which prove that the lake was used as a food source.

The numerous materials found include square beakers in fine pottery, large round vases in coarse clay, lower grindstones, polished green stone axes, tools and arrowheads in flint.

Finally, Late Neolithic is documented by stone and pottery from Le Fratte in Arcugnano and from Villa del Ferro.
