The strips of ground at the edges of the streets in inhabited centres have been abundantly colonised by exotic plants, while gardens and parks are instead deliberately planted with numerous trees and shrubs from different parts of the world and totally foreign to the ecological systems of our local area. The fauna of urban environments is relatively poor, made up of particularly elusive species or those resistant to the heavy modification of the environment brought about by man, but which enjoy benefits that are often curious and unexpected from this very co-existence.
